The first ritual

R2E — Read to Extract — is the original daily ritual of MercyChain, and the only place a pearl is born. Each day, you sit with a page. A sacred page from a book you already love, and a knowledge page from a book you are learning. You read at your own pace; the page knows how long it should take.

One line, kept

When the page is read, you choose one line. The words that found you, today. Those words become a pearl: a small note carrying the line itself, the book it came from, the day it arrived, and a serial number that is yours alone.

The sacred and the learned

A pearl from a sacred page carries more weight; a pearl from a knowledge page carries less. Both are real. Both rest in your shell for thirty days before they can move — a quiet pause, so the words settle before they travel.

A pearl can be given

After the pause, a knowledge pearl can be passed on. To another shell, instantly. To someone not yet on MercyChain, by message — they receive a small invitation to claim the pearl you saved for them. A line you found becomes a line they keep.

What is R2E? Why is it called that?
R2E — Read to Extract — is the daily ritual at the heart of MercyChain. Each day you sit with a single page; you keep one line from it; those words become a small note — a pearl — that you hold in your shell. It is the only place a pearl is born.
How long does R2E take each day?
Roughly two minutes — sometimes less. The timer is set by the page itself, not by a quota. A short page asks for a shorter sit; a longer line asks for longer. The point is presence, not speed.
How do I get into R2E?
R2E is invitation-gated, even for shell holders. When you open R2E for the first time, you ask for an invitation; we receive your request and answer within a day or two. Once you are in, the door stays open every morning.
What books can I read?
Two kinds. A sacred book — usually one you already love, returning to a small stretch of it each day. And a knowledge book — something you are learning, a chapter at a time. You choose both at the start; you can change either, but only after a day has passed.
What is the difference between a sacred pearl and a knowledge pearl?
A sacred pearl carries more weight — a denomination of ten DNA.M. A knowledge pearl carries five. Sacred pearls are kept; knowledge pearls are designed to be given to someone else, after a quiet pause.
Why is there a 30-day pause before I can move a pearl?
Because the words should settle before they travel. The pause is not a punishment; it is a way of saying that what you read today is allowed to stay with you for a little while before it goes anywhere else.
What does it mean to mint a pearl?
Inside the app, mint is the moment a pearl is created — a serial number assigned, the line and the date and the book recorded, and the new note placed in your collection. A small private fact about you becomes something you can hold.
Can I read more than one page in a day?
No, and we mean it kindly. R2E is built for once-a-day. Twenty-four hours after the last page, the next page becomes available. The slowness is the point.
Why does the page have a per-line timer?
Because rushing through a sacred line is the opposite of what the moment is for. The timer is small — five seconds at minimum, scaled to the length of the line. It exists so you cannot, by accident, finish a page in the time it takes to scroll a feed.
What is the highlight, and why does it matter?
At the end of the page, you choose one line. Not the most famous one. The one that found you, today. That choice is what becomes the pearl. It is the only act inside R2E that carries forward into the rest of the system.
Can I gift a pearl to someone?
Yes — once the 30-day pause has ended, and only for knowledge pearls. To someone who already has a shell, the pearl arrives in their collection instantly. To someone who does not yet have a shell, the pearl waits in a quiet treasury for 24 hours, while a message — sent through WhatsApp, or however you choose — invites them to claim it.
What if the person I gifted to does not claim within 24 hours?
The pearl returns to the treasury, not to you. We are honest about this so that gifting carries weight: you give, knowing that if the door is missed, the pearl does not come back.
Why can sacred pearls not be given away?
Because a sacred pearl is the record of a moment between a person and the words they chose to return to. We may revisit this; for now, it is the line we have drawn.
What is a streak?
A count of the consecutive days you have read at least one page. Streaks are not surfaced anywhere except inside R2E itself, and they are not a competition. Some people care about them deeply; some never look. Both responses are right.
Can I switch from one book to another?
Yes — but with a 24-hour pause between switches. Small enough to not feel punitive, long enough to make sure you are choosing rather than browsing.
What happens to my progress if I switch books?
Your pages already read remain yours, in the original book. Your streak resets when you re-select a book — by design. A new beginning deserves a new count.
Will the lines I keep be visible to other people?
No, by default. A line you keep is yours. If you give it as a knowledge pearl to someone you trust, the words travel with the pearl. Otherwise they stay where they began.
Can I read in Arabic?
Yes, where the source allows it. Many of the books inside R2E are bilingual — Arabic and English on the same page. You can read either, or both. The pearl that emerges does not care which language carried you to it.
